Why the RZD website won't open abroad
The RZD website (pass.rzd.ru, rzd.ru) and the «РЖД Пассажирам» mobile app are blocked for users with foreign IP addresses. The reason is protecting corporate databases from outside attacks. The site either loads forever or throws a system error right away.
What you lose without access to RZD
- No e-tickets at the official price — third-party aggregators add a markup
- No timetable or seat availability
- No refunds for tickets you already bought
- No access to the «РЖД Бонус» loyalty programme
You can ask someone in Russia to buy a ticket for you, but when plans change at the last minute that is no help.
How to get access
A VPN with a Russian server swaps your IP for a Russian one — RZD sees a request from Russia and lets you in.
Most Western VPNs won't do: they have no servers in Russia, or their IPs are blocked. And paying for a ticket by card demands properly encrypted connections.
VPN Russia for buying RZD tickets:
- High speed — search pages and carriage layouts load instantly
- The modern VLESS protocol keeps the connection to RZD reliable
- Encrypted payments — card details stay protected even on public Wi-Fi
Step by step: buying an RZD ticket from abroad
- Download VPN Russia from the App Store on iPhone/iPad or from Google Play on Android (there is a desktop version too)
- Open the app and pick a Russian server
- Tap Connect and wait for the tunnel
- Open the «РЖД Пассажирам» app or go to rzd.ru
- Sign in, choose your route and pay for the ticket — the e-ticket arrives by email and stays in the app
